Music
Music is an important part of spiritual life within the Church of Our Saviour community. The music program consists of an adult choir, family service choir, a handbell choir, a children's choir, children's music, annual Choral Evensong, and an occasional Church Musical. Community professionals, lifetime musicians, and novices are involved in making a joyful sound unto the Lord.
Adult choir director, Karen Dalton, leads the outstanding adult choir of over thirty members. The adult choir performs anthems and preludes ranging from Renaissance motets to modern pieces by composers such as Jane Marshall and John Rutter. The choir sings at the 11:00 a.m. service each Sunday between September and June, at special occasions throughout the year, and at the annual Choral Evensong, which typically occurs in the late winter.
The Family Choir is under the direction of local music education teacher, Donna Rehorn. This choir occasionally sings during the 9:00 a.m. service. New this year is the St. Nicholas Choir, consisting of students in grades 2 to 6. Donna also leads the children's music program, which is part of Church School each Sunday. The children occasionally sing during the 9:00 a.m. service. Donna also organizes the Church Musical, which is typically held in the spring every other year.
Karen Dalton leads the Canterbury Bells, our handbell choir. The handbell choir assists at selected Sunday services throughout the year, and occasionally performs at assisted living centers.
In addition to our choirs, Church of Our Saviour benefits from the time and talents of several organists and other musicians who accompany our choirs and congregation.
If you would like to make music with any of our choirs, we would love to have you! Please contact the church office at 434.973.6512 and we will have a choir director contact you.
There is nothing in the world so much like prayer as music is. ~ William P. Merrill
