Parish Weekend at Shrine Mont ~ 2010

"Come Away...Come Together"
On June 25th, COOS families and singles, young and old, gathered at Shrine Mont - the diocesan retreat center in Orkney Springs and home to the outdoor Cathedral of the Diocese of Virginia.
For three days in the wonderful mountain air of Virginia's Allegheny footlands, the group celebrated it's faith, shared stories, and delighted in fellowship with one another.
John Wharton presented a thought-provoking session on "God and Homer Simpson", complete with an episode from the popular cartoon show. It was an amusing look at the antics of Homer, as he writes off Sunday services and deals with his life - and ultimately, God. We spent time in groups exploring some of the themes in the episode and shared our ideas and faith. Following this, Emily Rutledge - our amazing Youth Minister - led the group in a series of games, where we all got to know each other a little better.
Fellowship time consisted of many activities including game playing, pool activities, mountain hiking, and porching - to name only a few. Saturday evening allowed everyone to cut a step and socialize with the Old-Fashioned Barn Dance and Ice Cream Social. Following the evening activities, our Youth led the group in an especially memorable and creative Compline service.
Sunday morning's Eucharist at the outdoor cathedral was a glorious peak to a great weekend journey. The Children prepared the altar and presented an offering of thanksgiving during the service. Donna Rehorn and Deb Morris presented beautiful music to grace the service.
